This is a new feature Betfair are rolling out to those who know what an API is!

Basically, it allows programmers to directly access Betfair data.

Currently, the mechanism is 'read-only' so that only price data can be displayed. In the next couple of months it will be possible to place bets via an API interface.

Now this sounds good because if you are clever (or know a mate who is) then you can make your own personal exchange!

If you are only interested in horseracing then just create a screen to display horse racing markets.

Fed up of clicking this that and the other to back a horse at 2.38 for

I cant beleive it. I asked them ages ago for an API I could use and they said no way.

Are they really allowing joe punter to have the applet ???

Will this include all the market infor ?? I use to program MarketSheets and alot of Vol data, with the API now that would really rock !!!

Who do you send the application to ????

This link says more:

services.betfair.com/bdp/

With a bit of luck, the other exchanges will follow suit and hopefully undercut them.

BTW, Sportingoptions are now doing place markets.

Spoke to Betfiar and got a few examples of what they can offer.....

Not worth it at the moment, all you can have is some nice little risk analyser . . . know your positions and the prices showing the spread.....

It wont be until late April ( which means June/July) before they can actually show you the market depth and market info....

Until then its not worth having . . .

Any reports of when the second Phase of the API that allows for the placement of bets is scheduled for release? Thanks in advance.

I think phase 2 will be a little longer. Only last week did BF get back to me about phase 1 stuff.

I get the impression that there is a lot of interest in the API and that they want to thoroughly plan who wants to do what. The demand is great. Many people are keen to utilise API functions regardless of the cost.

Visual Basic 6.0 allows you to easily imbed an Internet Explorer component into your project. From there on its fairly straight forward to programmatically navigate to the markets you're interested in and retrieve odds information etc. If that's all you're interested in then you can quite easily save yourself the

Phil, I have a considerable amount of betfair data collected as a by-product of my bots' activities. This data is fairly fragmentary and probably not currently in a format which would be of use to you. It also has a certain strategic value so I would probably not be prepared to let the raw data go. If I have time to spare I should be able to run some scripts to reformat it and abstract a specific line of data.

What are you interested in? Final prices before the off?

cheers,
Tim

Sure, the final available to back prices before the off will be fine. I know there will be a few rogue prices with the final price but it should even out - some prices way above sp, some way below sp but generally x% above sp.

All I need is the following in csv format

date, horse, betfair price
----------------------------
14/05/04,Russian Rhythm,4.1
14/05/04,Refuse To Bend,8.0

That's the format I had from Possum but the data was biased to his own selections and not the full market.
